Forklift Safety Precautions

1. Understand and obey all forklift safety regulations.



2. Wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE).



3. Inspect the forklift before each shift to ensure it is operating properly and has the necessary safety devices.



4. Make sure all personnel operating a forklift are adequately trained and certified to do so.



5. Drive the forklift in a slow and safe manner, obeying all posted speed limits.



6. Keep your hands, feet and body away from any moving parts while the machine is running.



7. Never drive a forklift over an obstacle unless you are sure it is sturdy and wide enough to support the machine and its load.



8. Keep your eyes on the road and avoid distractions such as looking at a mobile phone or playing with the controls.



9. Never allow riders on a forklift or other workplace vehicle.



10. Be aware of the truck’s load weight capacity, so you don’t overload the forklift or tip it over.

1. Make sure to use caution when driving in crowded or tight areas and when entering doorways or when approaching pedestrians.



2. Inspect the forklift daily, paying special attention to any warning lights, broken or loose parts, fluid leaks, and worn tires.



3. Wear a seat belt at all times.



4. Keep loads low and centered and do not lift beyond the forklift’s rated capacity.



5. When entering or exiting a parked forklift, use caution as it could suddenly move.



6. Slow down when going around corners and traveling over rough terrain.



7. Avoid steep inclines, ditches, and water.



8. Keep hands, arms, and legs inside the cab at all times.



9. Disengage the power before making adjustments or performing maintenance.



10. Never carry passengers.

1. Inspect the Forklift Before Operation: Every operator should inspect the forklift prior to operating. This includes checking all lights, tires, steering, and fluid levels.



2. Wear Safety Gear: Wear proper safety gear including a hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and a high-visibility vest.



3. Operate the Forklift at an Appropriate Speed: Operators should always drive the forklift at an appropriate speed. Be sure to take corners and curves at an appropriate speed to reduce the risk of tipping.



4. Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Be aware of other forklifts, pedestrians, and obstacles when operating the forklift. Always have an eye on the area surrounding the forklift to avoid an accident.



5. Properly Load the Forklift: The maximum load capacity should not be exceeded. The load should be properly balanced to ensure stability.



6. Keep Passengers Off the Forklift: Passengers should never be allowed to ride on the forklift, as it increases the risk of a tipping accident.



7. Make Sure the Path is Clear: Ensure that the path is clear before making any turns with the forklift. Be aware of other vehicles or pedestrians who may be in the area.



8. Take Extra Care When Loading and Unloading: Take extra care when loading or unloading material to avoid tipping the forklift. If possible, position the forklift at an appropriate angle before unloading.



9. Use Caution in Narrow Aisles: Always be aware of any obstacles when traveling through narrow aisles. If necessary, reduce speed and take extra care.
